UIDAI has allowed changing the name twice, gender and date of birth once in Aadhaar Card, while the address can be changed multiple times. For the change, one has to visit the Aadhaar enrolment centre or online portal and submit the required documents. The fee for changing the name and date of birth is Rs 50.
New Delhi: Aadhaar card is an important document and without it many works can get stuck. Many times the name, gender or date of birth is printed incorrectly in Aadhaar, or the address has to be changed due to frequent transfer.
UIDAI provides the facility to update Aadhaar, but it has some rules which are necessary to follow. Let us know, how many times the name, address, gender and date of birth can be changed in Aadhaar and what is its process.
How many times can I change my name, gender, date of birth and address?
- Name: Aadhaar card holders can change their name a maximum of two times.
- Gender and Date of Birth: Both of these can be changed only once in a lifetime.
- Address: The address on the Aadhaar card can be changed any number of times. There is no limit for this
Process to change name in Aadhaar Card
Women change their surname after marriage, for which it becomes necessary to change the name in the Aadhaar card. For this, go to the Aadhaar enrolment centre and follow the following procedure:
- Fill the enrollment form by providing the Aadhaar number.
- Attach the required documents.
- The biometric data and document authentication will be done by the officer.
- Pay the fee of Rs 50 and get the receipt.
- Track Aadhaar Update Status by Receipt Number.
Procedure for changing date of birth
To change the date of birth, visit the nearest Aadhaar enrolment centre:
- Carry documents like PAN card, birth certificate, passport etc.
- Fill the correction form and attach the documents.
- Verify biometric data and documents.
- Pay the fee of Rs 50 and get the URN slip.
- Track Aadhaar update status online from slip.
Address change procedure
You can change the address both online and offline. Online process:
- Visit the UIDAI website myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in.
- Login with Aadhaar number and OTP.
- Go to ‘Aadhaar Update’ and click on ‘Proceed to Aadhaar Update’.
- Fill in the new address and upload the documents.
- Deposit fee of Rs 50.
- Get receipt after payment and track updated status.

The following documents are required for change of address:
- Passport
- Bank statement or passbook
- Ration Card
- Voter ID Card
- Driving License
- Electricity/Water/Phone bill (not older than 3 months)
- Proof of identity (passport, PAN card, driving license)
